The 2025 State of the Birds Report revealed that we have lost 50% of the earth’s bird population in the past 50 years. Of course, the loss is due to a complex web of problems, most are human caused, but not all are entirely understood. However, there are things we can do personally, in our communities, and more globally, to improve the situation.

First, fall in love with the birds in your own community! We can’t support something we don’t care about. Second, learn about the challenges birds in your community face; we can’t solve problems we don’t understand. Third, act in ways that support bird populations. Because birds can (and have to) move globally, they are "canaries in the mine", warning us of dangers that are imminent to all of us. Now is a great time to fall in love with birds!
